Ecological Services

OTIE provides ecological services for a variety of projects requiring the restoration of native plant communities. Our natural resources staff has selected, designed, and provided construction oversight for thousands of acres restoration sites throughout the country. For these projects, we provided hydrologic analysis, soils characterization, planting and/or seeding plans, construction oversight, and long-term monitoring plan development.

OTIE provided baseline surveys of cultural and natural resources, infrastructure and recreation and visitor use to facilitate future planning and development of an Environmental Impact Statement (EIS) for the Elkmont Historic District in Great Smoky Mountains National Park. There were approximately 80 cottages, some outbuildings, and a hotel in the Elkmont Historic District, 67 of which were on the National Register of Historic Places. The OTIE team had developed a full range of project alternatives that were analyzed in detail as part of the EIS process to determine their potential direct, indirect, and cumulative impacts to resources in the District and surrounding area.

OTIE has completed numerous site investigations for proposed We Energies projects throughout Wisconsin and the Upper Peninsula of Michigan. Services included providing wetland and waterway assessment and regulatory services for natural gas and electric distribution maintenance and new installation projects. The work also included identification and/or delineation of wetland boundaries, rare species inquiries, waterway evaluations, and other environmental screening services including preparing and submitting WDNR and USACE wetland and waterway crossing notifications and permit applications.
